Welcome to Worship! – St. John's Erie

Good morning, you beautiful people of God!

SPECIAL MUSIC  “How Great Thou Art”

CALL TO WORSHIP  Psalm 139:4-7 (The Message)

You know when I leave and when I get back;
I’m never out of your sight.
You know everything I’m going to say
before I start the first sentence.
I look behind me and you’re there,
then up ahead and you’re there, too—
your reassuring presence, coming and going.
This is too much, too wonderful—
I can’t take it all in!
Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit?
to be out of your sight?

HYMN  “Let All Things Now Living”

PRAYER OF THE PEOPLE

God of green meadows and of wilderness ways, our lives are an open book to you.  Even from a distance, you know what we are thinking and what we are thinking.  In your compassionate love, you share our joys and our concerns, our hopes and our fears.  You know who and what we worry about and who and what we rejoice over.  As we come into your presence, we bring all our burdens and place them in our healing hands.

Into each fretful heart, into each place of grief and pain, into every heart and mind that needs your guidance, pour out your grace in limitless measure according to every need.  Strengthen human bodies, comfort mourning souls, bring peace and just to those are oppressed.  Intercede quickly on behalf of your people, and answer our prayers.

So with the confidence of those who are loved and forgiven, we pray as our precious Lord first taught us, saying, “Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever.  Amen.

PRAYER ON GIVING

God of Salvation, we seek to be children of your heavenly kingdom.  Yet, our self-deceiving ways cause us to believe that we will be more generous givers once we have satisfied our own personal, material desires.  Change our thinking.  Help us to be faithful disciples who recognize that everything we have in life is a gift from you.  Inspire us to share our resources as a response to your unconditional love.  Amen.

HYMN  “God Will Take Care of You”

BENDICTION (Psalm 139:7-12)

Is there anyplace we can go to avoid God’s Spirit, to be out of God’s sight?
If we climb to the sky, God is there!
If we go underground, God is there!
If we try to flee to the farthest horizon, God will find us in a minute!  He’s already there waiting for us.
Go with the blessings of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and know that we never journey alone through the wilderness.  Amen.
